6 exceptions allow residents to stay outside the UAE for more than 6 months.

It emphasized that the general rule is that expatriate residents holding valid UAE residence visas should not stay outside the country for more than six months, otherwise their residency visa will be canceled and deemed invalid. In such cases, they can only enter the UAE after applying for a new entry permit.

However, exceptions have been established to this rule, allowing expatriate residents to stay outside the UAE for more than six months while maintaining the validity of their residence visa. These exceptions include: foreign wives sponsored by their Emirati husbands, expatriates working in government entities and traveling abroad for official duties approved by government administrations, domestic workers accompanying students studying abroad, and individuals undergoing medical treatment abroad. In such cases, a medical certificate approved by the Ministry of Health and Prevention or other relevant healthcare authorities is required.

Additional exceptions include domestic workers accompanying members of UAE diplomatic and consular missions, employees of missions holding UAE residency permits, government sector employees sent for education or specialized courses abroad, as well as employees working in employers' offices overseas.
