Transport, storage and distribution of medical devices

Minister of Health and Population Abdul Rahman Al Owais issued a decree to regulate the transportation, storage and distribution of medical devices. The decree includes control measures such as the use of sealed refrigerated containers when transporting medical devices and raw materials at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. It also requires the use of temperature and humidity loggers to monitor transport conditions. Medical equipment and materials requiring low temperatures must be transported in appropriate containers. The decree also establishes requirements for the tightness of containers and the shelf life of equipment. Medical products in the UAE free trade zone must have a shelf life of at least 12 months after import. After receiving approval, the products are transferred to pharmaceutical companies. Transportation of medical devices must be carried out in temperature-controlled vehicles. Eco-friendly modes of transport and biodegradable packaging materials are also recommended. This has a positive impact on public health and helps combat the challenges of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
